So, here is something I have witnessed many times, but almost nobody makes any note of it. The number one way to make people connect with you isn’t small talk, it isn’t looking good, it isn’t even being similar in interests or personality. I have seen many times these result in fast-friends who simply vanish when everything is said and done. But there is something more, there needs to be something more especially if you are relying on these relationships to turn into a community and network that you can contribute to and will contribute to you.
There is one technique that has worked remarkably well that the US Marines use in their training. They build teams, but this isn’t done by making them eat and sleep together. They found this makes the people despise each other and long for their own privacy. It isn’t long lectures or books on the subject. It is that they put some huge obstacle in the way that no single soldier can overcome by themselves, and then they let things work themselves out.
This has worked in my own life, with my own friends. Those that I trust are not usually similar to me, but ones that we have been through a lot together. We know we can trust each other because we HAD to trust each other. I have learned that we can let bygones be bygones because we had to stay focused on the real problem, and hopefully they learned that from me as well. This takes the pickiness out of a relationship. We jumped past the whole stage of “I hate how you AX a question, or PACIFICALLY how you use the wrong word.” This first-impression pickiness kills relationships and therefore friendships.
If you want sure-fire connection that is natural... do something hard.

It’s all great getting people to pay attention, but it is possible for people to remember you and still decide that you aren’t worth their time. This happens all of the time. Here are a
